Family Training Program

What to Expect if You Volunteer
If you call us to see if you might want to participate in this study, we will screen you over the phone and in person. If you are eligible, we will ask you to attend 4 - 14 weekly training sessions. The first session will last approximately 90 minutes, and the remaining sessions will be approximately 60 minutes. These sessions will focus on issues related to your relationship with the person using drugs and/or alcohol.

Throughout the training program, we will be asking you to complete weekly questionnaires. These questionnaires will ask you about some of issues you are working on in your sessions. They will also ask about the treatment status of the person using drugs or alcohol. In addition to the weekly questionnaires, we will give monthly questionnaires about your emotional well-being and your relationship with the person using drugs. These questionnaires will also be collected 9 months after you’ve completed the training program to see how you are doing after you have finished meeting with your family trainer. You will be compensated for each set of questionnaires that you complete.

What Happens if I am Not Eligible for the Study?
If we determine that the study is not right for you, we will provide you with information about places where you might be able to get the help you need.

Confidentiality
Our staff is trained to respect your privacy by never discussing you, your sessions or questionnaires with anyone outside of our study team. We will not provide any information about you to anyone outside of the TRI staff unless you ask in writing that information be released.

We Appreciate Our Volunteers
We appreciate and respect the time and effort that you give us when you volunteer as a study participant. Your willingness to share your experiences with us makes it possible for us to conduct studies that may benefit the lives of many others.
